DAILY REPORT ON FEB 23RD 2018

The Dow and S&P 500 advanced on Thursday to halt a two-session losing skid, buoyed by gains in industrial and energy shares as U.S. Treasury yields eased, while the Nasdaq lost ground for a third straight session.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 164.7 points, or 0.66 percent, to 24,962.48, the S&P 500 gained 2.63 points, or 0.10 percent, to 2,703.96, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 8.14 points, or 0.11 percent, to 7,210.09.

Industrial shares climbed 0.59 percent, led by a 3.04 percent gain in Quanta Services Inc after its quarterly results and a 3.34 percent rise in United Technologies Corp after the aero parts maker said it is exploring a breakup of its business portfolio.

Energy stocks, up 1.08 percent, also helped support gains, as oil prices advanced on a surprise draw in U.S. crude inventories.

Asian shares rebounded on Friday as comments from a Federal Reserve official eased worries about faster rate rises in the United States, while the safe-haven yen held on to its gains amid heightened volatility across markets.

Financial markets have fluctuated wildly this month as investors fretted about how fast the Fed might raise rates in the wake of data showing a pickup in U.S. inflation.

Japan’s Nikkei edged 0.67 percent higher and South Korea’s KOSPI index rose 1.1 percent. China’s Shanghai Composite index and the blue-chip each rose 0.7 percent.

Oil prices hovered near two-week highs, supported by lower U.S. crude inventories, but gains were capped by a surge in U.S. exports. WTI crude added 6 cents to $62.83 per barrel and Brent eased 1 cent to $66.38.

Gold was 0.23 percent down at $1,329.70 an ounce. Silver lost 0.22% to $16.550 an ounce. Copper prices were 0.37% lower to $3.224 a pound. U.S. cotton is at $79.77 while sugar earned by 2.01% to $13.68.

Bitcoin is currently trading at 9,819, 9.20% lower on the Bitfinex exchange, from its previous close.

Ethereum was last trading at $831.31, 3.57% lower on the Bitfinex exchange on Friday.  Ripple’s XRP token was 7.85% down on the Poloniex exchange, for the day. Litecoin was trading at $192.55, down by 11.36%.
