 DAILY REPORT ON 19TH FEB 2018

U.S. stocks were on pace for a sixth straight day of gains on Friday after last week’s massive sell-off.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed 19.01 points higher at 25,219.38, with Pfizer as the best-performing stock in the index. The Dow also posted its sixth straight day of gains. At its session highs, it rose 232.05 points.

The S&P 500 closed just 0.04 percent higher at 2,732.22, eking out a six-day winning streak, after gaining as much as 0.9 percent. Utilities and health care were the best-performing sectors in the broad index.

Meanwhile, the Nasdaq composite snapped a five-day winning streak, closing 0.2 percent lower at 7,239.47. It rose as much as 0.7 percent on the day.

U.S. market will remain closed on Monday for Presidents Day.

Asian shares gained on Monday, joining a global recovery for equity markets as sentiment improved gradually from a recent shakeout that stemmed from fears of creeping inflation and higher borrowing costs.

Markets in the China region remain closed due to the Lunar New Year holiday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.94 percent, while South Korea’s Kospi index gained 0.87 percent.

Oil prices extended gains to hit their highest level in nearly two weeks on Monday, buoyed as Asian shares joined a global recovery in equity markets and as worries grew over tensions in the Middle East.

WTI crude was trading 1.10% higher at $62.23. Brent crude was 0.72% higher at $65.31.

In commodities, Gold was 0.37 percent down at $1,351.20 an ounce. Silver lost 0.31% to $16.660 an ounce. Copper prices were 0.12% lower to $3.235 a pound. U.S. cotton is at $77.16 while sugar slipped by 1.83% to $13.38.

Bitcoin is currently trading at 10,540, 1.04% higher on the Bitfinex exchange, from its previous close.

Ethereum was last trading at $926.96, 0.66% higher on the Bitfinex exchange on Monday.  Ripple’s XRP token was 0.68% up on the Poloniex exchange, for the day. Litecoin was trading at $216.97, down by 0.29%.
